Welcome to Beech Class! 

Our Class is a dynamic and engaging Year 1 & 2 class where our pupils continue their educational journey with a more formal approach to learning. In the mornings, we split the class in to single year groups. Our Year 1 pupils are led by Miss Field, an experienced Year 1 teacher, and Mr Whittaker, who teaches our Year 2 pupils. In the afternoons, both year groups come together and learn with Mr Whittaker. They are supported by Miss Russon, a dedicated Teaching Assistant who plays a crucial role in assisting students' academic and personal growth.

In Beech Class, we prioritize the development of early reading skills through a systematic phonics teaching approach in Year 1. Children are introduced to letter sounds, phonemic awareness, and blending techniques, equipping them with the tools to read fluently and confidently. In Year 2, we transition to a whole-class reading approach, focusing on comprehension, vocabulary development, and critical thinking skills.

Beyond reading, we strive to broaden our pupils' knowledge and curiosity through a termly project-based approach. Each term, we explore a project which has a historical or geographical focus. We also deliver subjects such as science, art, music , Religious Education, PE and ICT. This interdisciplinary approach allows students to make connections across different areas of learning and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Miss Field, Mr Whittaker, and Miss Russon work closely with parents and caregivers to ensure a strong partnership that fosters the best outcomes for each child.
